Litecoin is a peer-to-peer Internet currency that allows instant payments to anyone in the world. The small Bitcoin, which can be used efficiently mined with consumer-grade hardware, is different from iconBitcoin. Litecoin (targeted on average every 2.5 minutes) provides faster approvals and uses memory-resistant, code-based mining to target most people’s CPUs and GPUs. The Litecoin network is scheduled to produce four times more currencies than Bitcoin.

One of Litecoin’s goals was to provide a mining algorithm that could work simultaneously on the same hardware used for bitcoins. With the rise of specialized ASICs for Bitcoin, Litecoin continues to meet these goals. FPGA or ASIC mining is not likely to take over Litecoin until the currency is widely used.
